Elementary is back for another season and this time around Joan (Lucy Liu) is about to get some romance—which Sherlock (Johnny Lee Miller) could potentially ruin.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Steve Kazee—co-star of the Broadway hit “Once”—will play a love interest Joan meets online. (Fun fact: Kazee's co-star in the show, Cristin Miloti, is now the mother on "How I Met Your Mother.")
Unfortunately, Sherlock has some views on online dating. And of course those views will have a negative effect on any relationship Joan tries to have with Holmes’ partner.
The inaugural season of “Elementary” was a good one. Like most modern reprisal’s of the story, show creator Robert Doherty strayed away from a majority of the conventional characters and tales told by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
The transformation of Watson to a woman provided additional flexibility with the story line. There is now the possibility of a romance between Holmes and Watson.
Also making Irene Adler and Moriarty one and the same is a stroke of genius. In the original story and in many remakes Adler is the only woman that Holmes has loved and Sherlock is obsessed with the game he plays with Moriarty. Making them the same person will most likely create a conflict in Holmes, possibly a fight between being obsessed with trying to stop Moriarty but still being in love with her. (By the way it is great to see Natalie Dormer take her talents from “Game of Thrones” to “Elementary).
Season 1 was a good balance of suspense, laughs, and of course deduction. Hopefully Season 2 brings more of the same.
“Elementary” returns Thursday, Sept. 26, 10/9c on CBS.
