Lady Gaga Defends Miley Cyrus Twerking: Mother Monster Believes 'Wrecking Ball' Singer Should Be Left Alone; 'Everybody Needs to Lighten Up' (VIDEO)

Mother Monster Lady Gaga went on the defensive on Andy Cohen's Bravo show "Watch What Happens Live," defending fellow pop star Miley Cyrus.

Gaga feels people need to take it easy on the tongue-wagging, twerk-filled MTV Video Music Award performance. Considering the "Applause" singer is known for shock-value performances herself, she knows a thing or two about public backlash.

"I mean, I just think everybody needs to lighten up and leave her alone," Gaga told Cohen on Wednesday night. "Because it's pop music. Everybody's entitled to their own artistic expression, and if you have a problem with it, just change the channel.

"I don't understand the incessant need to constantly go on and on about hating things all the time because, what, she's 20 years old? And if anything, I give her props," Gaga continued. "You know, she's growing up in front of the entire world and maybe she's not so happy with stuff she did in her career when she was younger and she wants to be free, so let her do what she wants."

Not everyone shares Gaga's free-spirited sentiment about Miley Cyrus' performance.

MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski went on the TODAY show to discuss the risqué performance and did not hold back her more conservative opinions.

"There's pushing the envelope and there's porn, there's raunchy porn that's disgusting and disturbing and seeing... a 20 year old young woman literally in the process of her undoing and everyone clapping for it and being disturbed by it and talking about it and showing it, which I hope we don't," Brzezinski said. "Don't show it here on my segment, please."

"Oversexualized is one thing. Is it sexual to stick your face in the face of a life-size teddy bear and stick your tongue out? We're talking about raunch, we're not talking about sexualization," Brzezinski said.

Still, Lady Gaga made a valid argument. Miley is no longer a Disney star; she's all grown up and express herself any way she pleases, even if the world disagrees.
