Director Phil Coulson, Agent Daisy Johnson (formerly Skye) and the S.H.I.E.L.D. team will come across at least two new Inhumans in their search for more powered people in the third season of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." The Marvel TV show has cast former NFL player Matthew Willig to play the monstrous Lash and Juan Pablo Raba as the fledgling Joey.
A new synopsis obtained by Comic Book Resources describes Lash as an Inhuman whose "loyalties remain ambiguous" and Joey "is struggling to harness his newfound abilities." A number of unsuspecting people will soon realize their superhuman abilities due to the spread of the Terrigen, which will cause "the emergence of new Inhumans who cannot yet control nor understand their powers."
Coulson (Clark Gregg) has put Daisy (Chloe Bennet) in charge of the Secret Warriors initiative to track down these powered people in hopes of lining them up with S.H.I.E.L.D.'s efforts to protect the innocent from threats they cannot defeat nor conceive.
The synopsis also confirms the absence of Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), who has taken an impromptu vacation with her ex-husband Andrew (Blair Underwood) and has yet to return when the season begins. Agent Bobbi Morse (Adrianne Palicki) will continue to struggle in her recovery from the torture by Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), whose Hydra threat still looms large.
Still rebuilding S.H.I.E.L.D. in the wake of Hydra's reemergence, Coulson also has to overcome the loss of his hand, which Mack (Henry Simmons) was forced cut off in last season's finale. Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) is determined to discover what happened to his best friend Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), who disappeared inside the giant Kree stone.
"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will return on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
