When MTV announced that Miley Cyrus would be hosting this years VMAs, there was some speculation based on her past performances, especially the famously controversial 2013 performance with Robin Thicke and a certain foam finger. She may not have invented twerking, but she definitely introduced it to the world. At just 22-years-old, she's made a name for herself which is far from the young Disney star we once knew her as, but that's exactly what makes Cyrus perfect for a hosting gig like this one. She has no fear, no shame and is guaranteed to give it her all on stage, so as always, the VMAs will be an enjoyable and entertaining show, no matter what she may have up her sleeve.
"We're giving her pretty free rein," VMA executive producer Garrett English told Entertainment Weekly. "Obviously there are standards and various other things that were always a part of it, but no, [no rules]...It never comes from a place of trying to limit the range, it's always coming from a place of trying to open up the full palate."
English went on to explain that Cyrus has been "fantastic" throughout the whole preparation so far. She will be hosting with few restrictions and "there is nothing that is off-limits for Cyrus on the VMA stage." MTV couldn't be more excited about having her on board. Even her promotional videos so far have been racy and explicit, but they're bright and fun, and that's what fans want to see from the pop star.
She'll bring surprises to the stage, which is the best part about this particular award show anyways. It's one of those shows where you watch and just patiently wait to see which celebrity will do something shocking and exciting. We already know who will be performing and who's nominated, so it seems as though it'd be pretty similar to what you're used to seeing from these artists, but there is always room for surprises at the VMAs.
"One of the great things about the show is we try to create an environment where that spontaneity can happen and that creative expression rules the day. However that manifests is what excites us," English said. "The VMAs is always a place where the performances break barriers and do things that are different."
It'll also be exciting to see what Cyrus has planned for an outfit choice, considering she definitely has no shame in that department. She went on went on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Wednesday night in a rainbow sequin outfit and pasties.
See what Cyrus has planned as host of the 2015 MTV VMAs when they air this Sunday, Aug. 30, at 9/8c.
