While talking to Super Hero Hype about her upcoming film with co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, "Don Jon." Scarlett Johansson opened up a little bit about what fans can expect in the upcoming Marvel film, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." The actress teases an unexpected romance at the heart of the film.
"The pairing is strange on paper, she said. "But you'll understand the pairing when you see 'Cap 2' and of course Marvel's really good at noticing those connections [between characters] too! They will continue to build on the different relationships that audiences connect to."
MTV News and other fans have gone back to Joss Whedon's "The Avengers" to take a look at the film and see if any ground work had been laid that would support the idea first mentioned by Johansson at this year's Comic-Con when she said that Black Widow and Captain America's relationship will from "something of an intimate friendship" in the upcoming sequel.
When asked if the occasional subtle glances between the two characters in the first "Avengers" film was intestinally laying groundwork, the actress responded as best she could without putting words in Whedon's mouth.
"No, actually. Of course in "Avengers" particularly you start to see the relationships forming between these characters, and all of us have very specific relationships with one another. Of course we all know how we feel about one another. We work and all use each other in different ways. We all have very specific opinions about one another. I think that Joss laid the groundwork for a lot of interesting connections. That's why the audiences are so intrigued by that film because they love to see how these characters react to each other that come from completely different universes."
"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" will hit theaters as the final installment before the highly anticipated sequel "The Avengers: Age of Ultron." Before fans can get too excited about the Captain America sequel, they'll have to wet their beaks with "Thor: The Dark World" hitting theaters on November 8.
