If you've been keeping up with the surprise "Dancing With The Stars" cast reveals this week, the Chaka Khan announcement may have slipped right by you! Last night, ABC and the official "DWTS" Instagram page had announced that Alex and Carlos PenaVega would be competing in the upcoming season, and in the midst of their Disneyland takeover, the show quickly announced that the Queen of Funk would be joining the show as well.
"We interrupt the @disneyland takeover for this special announcement," "DWTS" captioned a video of Khan. "It's @chakaikhan and she is now our seventh official star for season 21! #DWTS." The show then tweeted some of her song lyrics with the same video, writing, "Tell me something good? @ChakaKhan will be on this season of #dwts!"
In the video, the still gorgeous 62-year-old says, "Hi, I'm Chaka Khan. And I want you to look out for me this season on 'Dancing With The Stars.'" She then tweeted the video of herself saying, "It's official, y'all!!" and asking her fans to root for her.
Khan is known for her hit songs "I'm Every Woman" and "Tell Me Something Good," according to Entertainment Weekly. She has won 10 Grammy's and she's bound to be an awesome addition to the already amazing cast. Along with Alexa and Carlos, Khan will be joining Nick Carter, Bindi Irwin, Hayes Grier and Victor Espinoza on the dance floor.
Earlier this week, multiple sources had revealed to E! News that Khan would be joining the upcoming season, but ABC had not confirmed it until now. The other rumored contestant is former Food Network chef Paula Deen. If the sources who claim that she will be competing are as legitimate as the ones who revealed Khan and Carter just days before their official announcements, then there's a pretty good chance we'll be seeing the well-known chef in the near future. Only time will tell! Stay tuned for more casting updates and watch the full reveal on "Good Morning America" on Sept. 2.
