Steve Carell Abruptly Replaces Bruce Willis in New Woody Allen Film

Woody Allen has a new A-List actor to star in his next movie. Bruce Willis was supposed to be playing the part but he had to step down for unknown reasons. Steve Carell will be taking his place, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Willis was seen on set recently, but he "abruptly left the production" earlier this week.

Some people are saying the film created a conflict with his upcoming Broadway show, "Misery," while others are saying he was let go. Willis was one of the first actors casta for this film, Deadline reports.

The real reason is still a little unclear but Allen wasted no time finding a replacement, according to Variety. Carell, best known for "40-Year-Old-Virgin" and "Foxcatcher," will be joining an already superstar cast that includes Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Blake Lively, Corey Stoll, Parker Posey, and many others.

The film does not yet have a name or distribution company, and plot details have not been released, according to Entertainment Weekly. This is a pretty typical matter for Allen films, though. Sony Classics seems to be the front-runner as they have worked together on many projects in the past. It is also unclear when the movie will be coming out.

This is not the first time Carell and Allen have worked together. In 2004, they worked on "Melinda and Melinda."

Carell has two new movies coming out soon, the drama "Freehold" with Julianne Moore, Michael Shannon and Ellen Page, and the financial drama "The Big Short" with Brad Pitt, Christian Bale and Ryan Gosling.
