President Barack Obama will test his survival skills in the Alaskan wilderness in a special upcoming episode of "Running Wild with Bear Grylls" on NBC. He's already survived a hostile Congress, how hard could the great outdoors be at this point?
NBC announced the special edition of "Bear Grylls" on Monday, and filming will coincide with Obama's upcoming trip to Alaska to observe the effects of climate change on the area. The episode will air later this year on NBC.
The president will meet survival expert Grylls in the Alaskan wilderness. Obama will be the first U.S. president to receive a crash course in survival techniques from Grylls.
While in the 49th state, Obama will rename the country's tallest mountain Mt. McKinely to Denali, a nod to the region's native population, according to CNN. His trip, the first for a sitting U.S. president to the arctic, will also include hiking on a melting glacier and visiting with a fisherman in a remote coastal village.
"Running Wild with Bear Grylls" is in its second season, and the survival expert has worked pushed the mental and physical limits of celebrities including Kate Winslet, Drew Brees, Kate Hudson, Zac Efron, Michelle Rodriguez and Channing Tatum.
Grylls trains "Fantastic Four" star Michael B. Jordan tonight on "Running Wild" at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC.
