Even though fans were upset Charlie Hunnam was cast as Christian Grey in the movie "Fifty Shades of Grey," the "Sons of Anarchy" actor is excited to tackle the role of the kinky, sexy billionaire.
According to Metro newspaper, the 33-year-old actor promised fans that he will not be using a body double and will perform all the sex scenes himself. During an interview, Hunnam said he is down to go the "full monty" in his love scenes with Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson).
"I'll never use a body double. I'm not worried," he said during an interview with The Sun newspaper.
Hunnam had previously admitted that he wasn't worried about shooting the love scenes because he already had plenty of experience from other roles. He told the Associated Press that one of his first jobs as an actor was as a young, gay man for a British miniseries and the sex scenes were often times intense.
"You know what, I had such a baptism of fire with regards to sexuality on camera at the beginning of my career," he told the AP. "I starred in the British Channel 4 miniseries Queer as Folk, where I played a young, gay character, and there were some incredible, explicit sex scenes on that show."
"Now I am 16 years older and more mature so I don't anticipate them being too much of a problem. It's like anything else, just an exciting challenge."
The leading man in the movie does have a girlfriend and he told the AP that at first she was hesitant about him getting down and dirty in the Red Room of Pain.
"She is incredibly supportive but of course she was a little trepidatious to begin with," he said.
E.L. James announced on Labor Day via Twitter that Hunnam and Johnson would star as the leads in the highly anticipated movie which is set to hit theaters August 1, 2014. The casting announcement received a tremendous amount of backlash but executives and producers defended their decision telling fans that the two had excellent chemistry which was vital in order for the movie to be a success.
Even Hunnam himself admitted that he felt a spark with Johnson while the two were shooting a chemistry test shot.
"As soon as we got in the room and started reading with Dakota, I knew that I definitely wanted to do it, because there was a tangible chemistry between us," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "If felt kind of exciting and fun and weird and compelling, and so that was it."
