The Newsroom Season 2 Finale Recap: A Boatload of Happy Endings; A Clean Slate

If you are in love with happy endings, then the Season 2 Finale of “The Newsroom” is definitely for you—as in find some way to record it, keep it and watch it whenever you’re feeling sad.

Literally everything went right this episode. Here’s a list-styled recap of all the happy endings:

Will (Jeff Daniels) and Charlie (Sam Waterston) decide they’re not going to resign because it was actually Jerry’s fault—duh. Even if they weren’t resigning it would not have mattered. Reese (Chris Messina)—upon who Leona (Jane Fonda) had bestowed the responsibility of choosing who resigned and who didn’t—decided to not take anyone’s resignation.

Jim (John Gallagher Jr.) convinced Maggie (Alison Pill) to talk about her trauma in Africa with Lisa (Kelen Coleman). Now, they’re best friends again (YAY!).

Jim gets away with calling Michigan too early. His prediction ends up being correct.

Sloan figured out it was Don who was at the heart of her book scandal. He attempted to make it appear as if her book was bid on at an auction. However, she eventually discovered it was him who bid the $1,000, signed the book for real, kissed him in front of everyone resulting in—you guessed it—another happy ending

Don has decided to counter sue Jerry Dantana (Hamish Linklater), good for him.

While Charlie was making his speech to Will about why they should not resign, Will gets a revelation. He grabs the Tiffany ring, runs out of his office and decides to propose to Mac. If you’ve been following the theme of happy endings through this recap, then you've probably guessed that she says yes and they make out. Then they announce it to the newsroom and everyone applauds.

The season finale seemed extremely, well, final. Jeff Daniels tweeted earlier this month that the show has been renewed for a third season. I guess this means “The Newsroom” will start from scratch next season which creates a whole bunch of possibilities. So, we will be watching Mr. Sorkin, we will be watching.
