Rockstar Games is on the eve of one of its biggest game title launches. At midnight on Sept. 18 retailers like Best Buy, GameStop and Walmart will begin to sell the highly anticipated "Grand Theft Auto V." In anticipation for gamers getting started by the thousands on Tuesday, Rockstar has released a companion app for iOS called iFruit.
"iFruit hooks directly into your experience of Grand Theft Auto V with some fun activities to further postpone the need for real social interaction," the app description says. "Keep up-to-date on the latest Grand Theft Auto V news, log into the Rockstar Games Social Club, stay connected on LifeInvader and launch other Rockstar Games apps."
According to PC Mag, Rockstar has since promised a version of the app for Android, Windows Phone, Playstation Mobile and Vita. However, no real set date has been placed on those apps other than the vague description of "soon."
Rockstar also has plans to release a digital game manual for iOS as early as today that will allow other platforms to use at a later date.
Users at IGN who have already gotten a chance to play and review the game call it "a leap forward in narrative sophistication for the series, and there's no mechanical element of the gameplay that hasn't been improved over Grand Theft Auto IV." The title takes place in the fictional city of Los Santos, meant to be a parody of the real-life city of Los Angeles. Gamers can do everything from pull off a bank heist to play a round of golf inside the amazingly vast open world.
The game will be available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The standard Edition is $59.99 and the Special Edition is $79.99. Meanwhile, real die-hard fans of the "Grand Theft Auto" franchise can purchase a Collector's Edition for $149.99
