There's nothing better than triple-threat star power, and Tori Kelly definitely has it. Not only is she absolutely stunning with her wild curly hair and edgy rocker chick style, but she has a powerful gorgeous voice and the guitar-playing skills to back it up.
She blew everyone away with her performance at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards and proved that you don't need a gimmick or a risqué outfit to command the stage. Her simple, stripped-down live version of her hit "It Should've Been Us" made her voice stand out and she brought everyone's attention back to the reason why the VMAs exist in the first place: to celebrate the music.
Kelly got her start on YouTube, where she gained popularity and views for her acoustic cover videos. Her big break was her cover of Frank Ocean's "Thinkin' Bout You," which has more than 23 million views since the video was uploaded in January 2012, CBS news reported.
She started singing as a child and grew up in a musical household, picking up various instruments along the way. Her manager, Scooter Braun, also represents pop stars Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber, and she released her debut album in June, titled "Unbreakable Smile."
The budding pop star is also resilient and determined. She auditioned for "American Idol" during season 9, but she didn't make it into the top 24, CNN reported. Judge Simon Cowell told Kelly that her voice was "almost annoying," but she didn't let that stop her. She continued to follow her dream, which led her right to the MTV VMAs.
