Cate Blanchett is attached to star as legendary comedian and actress Lucille Ball in an authorized biopic that Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin will pen. Ball and Desi Arnaz's two children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr., will produce the film, according to TheWrap.
The movie will focus on Ball's life over the course of her 20-year marriage to her "I Love Lucy" co-star Desi Arnaz. Ball eloped with the Cuban bandleader in 1940; they eventually divorced in 1960.
Ball was nominated for 13 Emmys and won the award four times. She also received the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award in 1979 for her outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Blanchett was most recently seen in "Cinderella" and "Carol." She has won two Academy Awards — Best Supporting Actress in "The Aviator" and Best Actress for "Blue Jasmine" — according to Entertainment Weekly.
Sorkin, an accomplished television and film writer, won an Oscar for his screenplay "The Social Network" and wrote the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic starring Michael Fassbender.
Arnaz passed away in 1986 and Ball died three years later, in 1989.
