Just hours after walking the runway at New York Fashion Week on Friday, model and singer Sky Ferreira and her DIIV frontman boyfriend, Zachary Cole Smith, for possession of heroin and ecstasy were arrested, the New York Post's Page Six reports.
Twenty-one year old Ferreira and her friends Cara Delevingne and Georgia May Jagger had modeled Marc Jacob's new collection for the spring and summer on Friday night. At around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, Ferreira and Smith were pulled over on the way to his home in the Catskills for "several vehicle and traffic infractions," according to the Saugerties Police Department.
After investigating, officials discovered that 28-year old Smith was driving an unregistered Ford vehicle with stolen plates, and in possession of a "plastic bag containing 42 drecks of heroin," while Ferreira was found to be in posession of ecstacy.
"She physically fought the officers," Chief Joseph Sinagra told Page Six of Ferreira's resistance to arrest.
Ferreira was taken to Ulster County Jail, and later she and Smith were released on $2,500 (Smith) and $1,500 (Ferreira) bail.
"What you're reading is a police blotter, not the outcome of a court case," Smith wrote on his Twitter soon after the incident. "These cops wanted to [bleep] us, and they did. Sky did nothing wrong."
Sky Ferreira is known not just for modeling work, but for her independent, alternative/pop-rock music as well that she has a hand in writing. She has so far released two EPs, including her most recent, "Ghost," which received mostly positive critical reviews, and is scheduled to release her anticipated debut album, "Night Time, My Time" later this year.
"Yeah, I do go out, but I'm not a drug addict by any means," Ferreira said in a recent interview with Billboard. "You can't do this if you're a drug addict. If I was a drug addict, there would already be a ton of shit out there showing that I was a drug addict, you know? I would be behaving like one. I think it's partially who I hang out with, the way I look and the way I dress."
Fans are concerned about Ferreira's well-being, worrying she may be struggling with drug addiction.
Not long after her arrest, Ferreira released a sample of a song off of her forthcoming album, a 29-second clip of a track called "You're Not the One," available for full release on Sept. 24.
