A two-year-old poodle was saved from a burning truck by his owner, after the truck crashed into another vehicle, causing it to burst into flames. The owner, Wade Newman, also suffered burns on his arms and face, but braved the fire in order to save one of his two dogs - Snowflake. The other dog, Sasha, had already escaped without a scratch.
"The heat was getting intense so I jumped out and rolled around on the ground to make sure I wasn't on fire and then I went back to try and convince them to come out," Newman said, according to CTV News.
Snowflake is undergoing extensive treatment at Winnipeg Humane Society, the cost of which has become quite unaffordable, according to the organization. "We're hoping to raise about $20,000 for her care. We're probably going to have to refer her to a specialty facility to have the skin grafting done," said Erik Anseeuw, a vet at WHS, according to CTV News.
The shelter has started a fundraiser for the dog, hoping that those touched by the story will come forward to help, according to The Dodo.
"She's just the most amazing dog. She's so sweet," said the WHS's vets in a statement on Snowflake's fundraising page. "The day after she came here, we had her full head-to-toe in bandages and she was wagging her tail at us."
