Manchester United has its next transfer target already set: Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, according to The Independent. United is looking to shore-up its central defense after missing out on Sergio Ramos and Nicolas Otamendi during the recent transfer season.
After reports died down this past summer indicating that Chelsea was looking to sign Varane, Manchester United now sits in the driver seat, according to Metro.UK.
Daley Blind and Chris Smalling are doing their best to keep the United backline in check, but adding a talented player like Varane would increase defensive production substantially. United sits in fifth place with a 2-1-1 record in the Premier League and has allowed only two goals in four games.
While the team thought it was sending David De Gea to Real Madrid, the deal ultimately did not go through, thus opening the door for other players to come in during the upcoming transfer windows.
United and Madrid continue to play a cat and mouse game with their top players every transfer season. Maybe United will have technology issues again when it comes to making this transfer go through.
Too soon?
