Emaciated Boxer Mix Tied Outside Georgia Church Rescued

A dog, believed to be a boxer mix, is now on his way to a full recovery after being found outside a church in Northwest Atlanta, Georgia, this Sunday. When animal rescuers from Angels Among Us Animal Rescue (AAUPR) got to him, he was tied to a tree and severely emaciated.

Odysseus, or Oddie, the moniker given him by his rescuers, weighed only about 26 pounds when he was found. Due to his emaciated state, officials are unable to determine his breed, though is appearance suggests that he is a boxer mix. A healthy boxer's weight averages about 55-70 pounds, according to NBC News.

Karin Wallace of Angels Among Us Pet Rescue describes Oddie's state when he was found.

"He has a body score of a half or a 1 out of ten," she said. "So that's pretty horrendous. He hasn't had a meal in who knows when. He probably wouldn't have survived too much longer."

She further states that AAUPR got a call from Fulton County Animal Services about a dog that is in dire need of medical attention. By the time they were able to bring him to the GVS Blue Pearl Animal Hospital on Abernathy Road, the dog couldn't even stand anymore, reports WSB-TV Atlanta.

Oddie has since been treated around the clock, with doctors putting him on a feeding schedule in order to introduce food back to his system. Thankfully, he was not suffering from heartworms or any other diseases, so there is hope that he will make a full recovery.

"Odysseus is doing remarkably well, given his current condition," AAUPR said in a statement in the group's Facebook page. "This sweet boy still has a long road ahead of him but his future is looking brighter than ever. He desperately wants love. He's a bit nervous at first when he meets someone but quickly warms up."
