Russian Surgeon Dies After Being Shot By Patient Unhappy With Cosmetic Operation In Murder-Suicide

A surgeon in Russia passed away on Tuesday after a patient, who was unhappy with the results of a cosmetic operation conducted on him, shot him before killing himself.

Yury Lebedev, 34, shot the surgeon, who was referred to the media as Alexander Remizov, in his clinic at the Russian Railways hospital located in northwestern St. Petersburg, investigators said in a statement, according to Agence France-Presse.

Lebedev was mad at several botched operations, specifically those on his nose and ears. The surgeon did not actually conduct the operation himself, instead only administering it.

The patient then proceeded to shoot the surgeon in the chest using a hunting rifle he had brought at the hospital, where its metal detectors were switched off when he went in.

Friends of Lebedev, who was a submarine officer for 10 years before he moved to St. Petersburg, claimed that he had been struggling in his personal life and blamed it on his appearance, The Rakyat Post reported.

Remizov succumbed to his injuries overnight in the hospital. Initial verifications imply that the shooter may have been motivated by revenge.

"He [the shooter] underwent plastic surgery on his nose at this hospital in 2010 and 2011, but was dissatisfied. In 2013 he had plastic surgery on his ears, but was disappointed with the results once again," Prosecutor General's Office spokesperson Marina Nikolayeva said, according to The Moscow Times.
