Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans are excited about the potential of their offense this year with first overall pick Jameis Winston at quarterback the two big wide-receivers, Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans, and a rejuvenated Doug Martin at running back. Bucs fans have every right to be excited as their team is young with a lot of potential, but in order for them to reach that potential they are going to need everyone on the field. Mike Evans is currently dealing with a hamstring injury and did not practice on Wednesday, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.
This news makes it a bit questionable whether Evans will play in Sunday's season opener against the Tennessee Titans. A lot of times coaches won't allow players to play in games without practicing at least once during the week. Now, it is only Wednesday, so Evans does have a couple of days to be able to get on the field, but at this point, you have to wonder how healthy and sharp he will be on Sunday if he does play.
In an ideal world the Bucs would love to have their full assortment of weapons available to Winston in his first career start. Evans is the team's best playmaker and makes up half of a big receiving duo for Tampa Bay with Jackson. Evans' injury seems to be minor as many people still expect him to suit up on Sunday but hamstring injuries could be nagging and effect a player for a long time. The best course of action for Evans personally might be to play it safe and rest the hamstring, so he comes back fully healthy and doesn't risk making it worse but if he thinks he can go he likely will.
In 15 games a season ago, Evans had a very impressive rookie campaign, catching 68 passes for 1,051 yards and his 12 touchdowns tied him for fourth most in the league. Evans' status is worth keeping an eye on because if he doesn't practice in the next couple of days he may be out week one which would hurt Jameis in his first ever start but would be wise for the Bucs long-term this season.
