Last month, it was revealed that "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter was in the early stages of developing a new show set in the world of motorcycle clubs in Northern California. Shutter said the show would revolve around the Mayans, an Oakland, Calif.-based motorcycle gang that was a rival to SAMCRO in "Sons of Anarchy," according to Entertainment Weekly. Now, Sutter finally dropped some exciting hints about the possible Mayans spin-off.
Sutter said the Mayans series would take place in present day and would not be a prequel, according to Screen Crush.
"It's the same [biker] subculture, but it'd be interesting to see the influences of that culture and how it impacts the subculture we already understand," Sutter told Deadline. "I would do a contemporary piece, not a prequel, and place it far enough away from Northern California that it wouldn't step on the mythology that's already been told. It doesn't mean that there couldn't be some cool, ironic crossovers with familiar characters as the series progressed. I wouldn't want to set it too close to the world we already know, and step on that."
"Sons of Anarchy" ranked as the most popular show in the history of the FX network. The season finale last December was seen by a record-breaking audience of 9.2 million viewers.
