While 2013's "Man of Steel" was technically the launching pad for the DC Extended Universe, next year's "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Suicide Squad" are considered the true starting points. The former will introduce audiences to Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, who will fight alongside our titular heroes before getting her own solo film in 2017.
Not much is known about the film as of now. Patty Jenkins ("Monster") will direct a script from Jason Fuchs ("Pan") and Chris Pine ("Star Trek") will co-star as Wonder Woman's love interest Steve Trevor. Outside of that, your guess has been as good as ours.
However, a new rumor has emerged that concerns the timeline of Diana Prince's film.
Heroic Hollywood is reporting that "Wonder Woman" will cover two distinct time periods; the first half of the film will apparently be set during World War I, while the latter half takes place in the present-day. During Warner Bros.' panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2015, concept art revealing the Amazonian warrior standing over WWI/WWII-era soldiers was revealed. That adds a little bit of credence to HH's unconfirmed report.
The film's present-day setting also makes sense. Pine may not have many box office hits on his resume outside of the "Star Trek" franchise, but he's still considered an A-lister. His character's role in the comics was that of liaison between the Justice League and the American government. It's pure speculation, but it's likely he'll be around the DCEU for at least a few films.
Earlier rumors suggested that "Wonder Woman" would take place in the 1920s, but this is the first report that claims a timeline divide. Zack Snyder's version of Wonder Woman is said to be the daughter of Zeus, which would explain her long life span.
We'll keep you posted as more details begin to emerge.
