A North Carolina man who was charged with murder in Wilmington, showed no more remorse for his actions when he taunted the victim's family during his court appearance Tuesday morning.
The suspect, 21-year-old Antonio Beatty, was charged with first-degree murder for the shooting death of Carlton Whitley, 25, who was found dead in a parking lot near Metting Road in July, according to ABC's North Carolina affiliate WWAYTV3.
Whitley's fiance, sister and daughter were all present at the hearing as Beatty smiled at them, and at one point stuck his tongue out, and laughed at them.
"I feel like justice needs to be served. He don't care obviously. He showed that his self in court that he don't care, that he don't have no remorse for what he did, and he needs to be charged," Whitley's fiancee, Octavia Bryant said, according to NBC's North Carolina affiliate WECT 6. "He needs to go down for this. This is not right. He took my daughter's father from her. She don't deserve that and then you're going to stick your tongue out at a five-month-old? She is a baby!"
Whitley's sister, Ebony Silman, said she was angered by what happened.
"He needs to be dead. He needs the chair," Silman said. "He don't care, he killed a life and don't care."
In a jailhouse interview, Beatty stated the family was taunting him throughout the hearing, so he taunted them in return, according to Breitbart.
"I mean I'm upset myself, but they ain't have no right to stick their tongue out at me, they ain't have no right to stick their middle finger up at me. F--k y'all, they lucky I didn't do more than that," Beatty said.
Beatty's family claims "he isn't completely responsible for the murder," but he "could face the death penalty if convicted."
A judge put Beatty back in jail under no bond. He will be given a court appointed capital defender.
