The 67th annual Emmy Awards are still a week away but "Game of Thrones" is already a big winner. The HBO drama took home eight Emmys on Saturday at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which celebrates the achievements made behind the TV cameras.
The ceremony honored 50 shows and artists at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sept. 12. The other big winners on the night included FX's "American Horror Story: Freak Show," NBC's "Saturday Night Live," Amazon's "Transparent," and HBO's "Going Clear: Scientology and The Prison of Belief" and "Bessie."
Outstanding guest actors and reality hosts were also named. The drama awards went to actor Reg E. Cathey, who plays Frank Underwood's (Kevin Spacey) BBQ man on "House of Cards," and actress Margo Martindale for her role as the KGB handler on "The Americans."
Bradley Whitford picked up his second-ever Emmy win for his role on the comedy "Transparent." Joan Cusack won her first Emmy for guest starring on "Shameless" after four previous nominations for the role.
For the second year in a row, Jane Lynch won the Emmy for Outstanding Reality Host for "Hollywood Game Night." "Bessie," starring Queen Latifah as the legendary blues performer Bessie Smith, won Outstanding Television Movie.
HBO documentaries "Going Clear" and "The Jinx" won Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special and Series, respectively. "Saturday Night Live" won Outstanding Variety Special, one of its five awards on the night, for the "40th Anniversary Special."
"Inside Amy Schumer" could walk away a big winner next Sunday, but the show has already picked up one Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for its viral hit "Girl You Don't Need Make."
