"It is not enough to condemn campus sexual assault. We need to end campus sexual assault," Hillary Clinton said, according to The Huffington Post. She was speaking in Iowa on Monday when she said her administration would have a campus assault plan.
Clinton has not outlined a specific plan, so it's not clear how much her idea may differ from the "It's On Us" campaign launched by President Barack Obama in 2014. "It's On Us" strives to raise awareness of sexual assault on college campuses.
"To every survivor of sexual assault... you have the right to be heard. You have the right to be believed. We're with you," she said.
The Journal of Adolescent Health determined that 19 percent of women, almost one in five, have been the victim of attempted rape or rape while in college, according to CNN.
"If we were to have one out of every five women stand up, that would be a pretty big crowd. Think of the impact on their lives. They're trying to manage the emotional, physical, sometimes the educational, financial fallout - they miss classes, some drop out, some never finish their education," Clinton said, according to The New York Times. "I'll fight to make sure that every campus offers every survivor the support she needs, and we'll make sure that these services are comprehensive, confidential and coordinated."
