A Donald Trump rally at the American Airlines Center in downtown Dallas saw a huge turnout of supporters as well as protesters.
Saying it is time to stop illegal immigration, the Republican front-runner said "it's a massive problem," reported Reuters. The crowd showed approval by roaring and waving Trump campaign signs and American flags.
During the speech to launch his campaign June 16, Trump said that people crossing the Mexican border are "bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists." His views have been widely criticized.
At the Dallas rally, attended by approximately 17,000 supporters, Trump continued his tirade against illegal immigration.
"We have to stop illegal immigration. We have to do it. We have to build a wall, folks. We have to build a wall. And a wall works. All you have to do is go to Israel and ask, 'How's your wall working?' I want to have a big, beautiful door, but [immigrants] have to be legal. They have to be. And if they're not going to be, they can't come in. We are a dumping ground for the rest of the world. We are. A dumping ground," said Trump, reported RT.com. Trump ended his speech by saying "we will make America great again," and that the audience was part of a movement to take back the country.
After the rally ended, Trump supporters were heckled by protesters, mainly Hispanic, shouting "shame on you," reported Raw Story.
The protest rally, with the hashtag #DumpTrump, spread across social media and brought together hundreds of people for a march from the Catholic Cathedral to Dallas City Hall.
The event concluded without incident and there were no arrests, according to Dallas police.
