A new body image trend is taking over celebrity photos on the social site Instagram. After the thigh gap, thighbrows are now the rage, and it even has its own Instagram account.
So, what is this latest body obsession? There's no hair involved with this type of "brow," but rather, the term refers to the fold of skin on the top of the thighs, separating the leg from the butt, according to Elle Magazine.
As a person sits, bends forward or kneels, the thighbrows appear. It's more obvious when one is donning a high-cut swimsuit. Celebrities like the Kardashian and Jenner sisters, Beyonce and Rihanna show their thighbrows in photos on their Instagram accounts, according to People Magazine.
While the thigh gap perpetuates being thin, the thighbrow is the opposite. It supposedly encourages women to flaunt their bodies and reveal the brows as its natural feature, according to Paper Mag. However, some body image and fitness experts disagree with this idea.
"I don't see how this can be called a body-positive trend when it requires a high cut bathing suit. It also seems to require a flat belly, so that line about it being achievable for anyone seems fishy. It's a new version of the same old 'bikini body' language. No thanks!" said Courtney Marshall, a Women's Studies professor and body-positive fitness coach, according to Daily Dot.
"The only purpose this serves is to continue to push a volatile relationship between women and their bodies by forcing them to focus on specific parts of themselves that need to fit a physical ideal instead of learning to accept all of their bodies no matter what they look like," said Amanda Levitt of Fat Body Politics.
