Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr could be good to go this week against the Baltimore Ravens, according Curtis Crabtree of NBC Sports.
"I think he'll be in good shape this week," said head coach Jack Del Rio, via transcription of Sirius XM NFL Radio by Crabtree. Carr only made 12 pass attempts before injuring his thumb when trying to stiff-arm Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam Jones.
"Using his throwing hand as a straight-arm tool, I would probably not ask him to repeat that," said Del Rio, according to ESPN's Bill Williamson.
Carr's X-rays on his thumb came back negative, and it is reportedly just a bruised thumb. Matt McGloin came in for the injured Carr, and had a solid performance, throwing for two touchdowns. But much of that success game in garbage time as the Bengals were already up 33-0 before the two scores.
The Raiders threw for 183 yards as a team and only rushed for 63 yards on the ground. The Raiders look like they have a lot of work to do before their next game against the Ravens. The Ravens had four sacks against Peyton Manning and the Broncos last weekend and have just signed pass rusher Jason Babin. Look for the Ravens to bring pressure this weekend against the second-year quarterback Carr.
Carr was the 36th pick by the Oakland Raiders in 2014 and looks to be the future of the franchise. As a rookie he had 3,270 passing yards and 21 touchdowns, but also 12 interceptions and four fumbles. All rookie quarterbacks make mistakes, but the Raiders organization will likely want him to slide or avoid injury next time instead of using his throwing hand for protection.
