Xbox One vs. PS4: Microsoft Won't Restrict Ability To Play Both Consoles At Same Time Through HDMI Port On One Screen

The Xbox One's HDMI pass-through port will support "any HDMI device, the company announced at it's presentation at the Tokoy Game Show. This even includes the ability to feed video through the PlayStation 4.

During the presentation, Xbox's Senior director of product management and planning, Albert Panello was asked a question about the Xbox One's ability to support video feed from the PlayStation 4, which he quickly dodged.

However, despite the dance around the question, the company later unveiled the news later in its presentation when Panello discussed the Xbox One's snap applications to the side of the screen while the user is currently playing a game. He shocked the crowd with his announcement.

"Any application can be snapped to a game... this could be the live TV feed, so if you wanted to be playing Ryse and Killzone at the same time, you could snap that," he said according to Gamespot. This was his tongue-in-cheek way of saying that Microsoft will not be restricting or blocking the PlayStation 4's video signal. Killzone is a first-person shooter series that is exclusive to Sony's consoles.

In other words, the Xbox One will allow users to play both consoles, given the opportunity, via a snap, split-screen option. Although this doesn't mean accounts from each game will be playable across the console, now two consoles on one TV has a better way to share gameplay between family members, consoles and friends.

The news comes just after Sony revealed that it will not prevent users form capturing video from the PlayStation 4's HDMI port. The Xbox One is scheduled for launch in North America, and most of Europe, Australia and New Zealand on November 22. Meanwhile the PlayStation 4 will be available in most of the same markets starting on November 15 in North America.
