Oscar Pistorius, the Paralympian who was convicted of culpable homicide, is hoping a parole board will allow him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest, according to AFP.
Pistorius was sentenced to five years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend, model and reality TV star Reeva Steenkamp, in 2013.
With reports of being "frail" and "broken" from his friends, the South African athlete had hoped to be released from jail to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest in August, but he was denied by Justice Minister Michael Masutha at the last minute, the Daily Mail reported.
Masutha says that the courts made a mistake in allowing parole when Pistorius had only served 10 months, and the law dictates that he served at least one-sixth of his sentence.
Pistorius is also saying that he would not be able to afford a new trial after prosecutors argued that the lesser conviction given at the initial trial was not correct, according to The Daily Beast.
Pistorius said that the Valentine's Day shooting was an accident, claiming that he thought Steenkamp was an intruder, but he was still found guilty of the lesser charge.
Pistorius made headlines for being the first amputee to race against full-bodied runners in the London Olympics.
