A mysterious and wondrous "iridescent cloud" has appeared above Costa Rica, but some are more terrified of the natural phenomenon than inspired, according to the Mirror.
Videos and pictures of a very rare cloud formation with multicolored light have gone viral on social media sites like Facebook and Instagram, with the hashtags #EscazuCostaRica and #ElcieloExtraño, translated to mean "strange sky."
"We were just so amazed. We had no idea what it was and we'd never seen anything like it," said Joey Petit, a resident who witnessed the clouds with his family during the country's Independence Day.
Apparently the phenomenon is called "cloud iridescence," and creates a sight that is rarely seen. Some are viewing the cloud formation with religious undertones.
"It was breathtaking. Like a sign from God," said Jessie Montealegre.
Some are even marking the beautiful formation as the end of days, saying that it is a peek of what God has in store for the world, according to the Big News Network.
There are even people suggesting that the lights are a possible sign from aliens.
But meteorologists say the cloud is a result of light refracting off water droplets and crystals of ice in the clouds, according to ABC News.
