There will always be winners and losers in Kpop. Numerous groups debut, rise, make a comeback, and compete for the people's purchasing power every week. As some groups make a name for themselves, others take the back seat.
Super Junior (SM Entertainment)
In the past, Super Junior's Albums were sold before they were even released. "Sorry, Sorry," SJ's biggest hit, became the best-selling Kpop song in Taiwan, Thailand, China, and the Philippines.
On Sept. 15, Super Junior dropped the music video for "Magic." Almost three days after the release, the song cannot be found on iChart and Melon Chart.
On the comment section of the song's YouTube video, Super Junior's fans, the ELFs, are discussing what to do. The fandom fears the upcoming enlistment of other SJ members, and the consequences of the event in the careers of the SJ members.
The military enlistment of some members is perhaps one of the major reasons why the group's popularity dwindled. SM Entertainment is also being blamed by ELFs who think the big company is prioritizing rookie groups Exo and Red Velvet. Super Junior debuted on 2005, which means they are celebrating their 10th year as Kpop idols.
CN Blue (FNC Entertainment)
Much like Super Junior, CN Blue was once the bacon bringer of its agency. The members did not only top South Korean and international music charts, they also successfully went into acting.
On Sept. 13, the Korean male act released "Cinderella." Six days after its release, the song is 67th in Melon and 23rd in iChart. While the songs is still ranking, the achievement is far from CN Blue's popular songs such as chart-topping "Hey You," Koreaboo reported. CN Blue's fans, the Boice are hoping that the ranking will improve once the group starts promoting.
The group's less stellar chart performance may be attributed to the unwise timing of their comeback. The previous months have been filled with comebacks from top male and female groups such as AOA, Sistar, Apink, Girls Day, and Exo which are still holding places in the charts topped by Girls Generation, Big Bang, Red Velvet, and G-friend.
Nonetheless, the group's members are still popular actors. Lee Jong-hyun's TV series "Orange Marmalade" just wrapped up. CN Blue members are also composing songs and doing other artistic projects.
Also, the group's lead vocalist Yong Hwa successfully debuted in January with his number one song "One Fine Day."
Brown Eyed Girls (TBA)
In 2013, the group released "Kill Bill." While the song remained in the top 5 of various charts, the it did not rank first, unlike the group's previous releases.
The group's "Abracadabra," dropped in 2009, did not only top charts. Its choreography was being danced by everyone in South Korea. Psy's "Gentleman" borrowed some movements from the BEG song.
The group has not released a track in two years, apart from Gain's solo hit "Paradise Lost."
Recently, it was announced that the group has left their agency Nega Network. Fans are waiting for the group's announcement of their future plans.
