"Grand Theft Auto V" went on sale last week and soon became the fastest selling videogame of all time, raking in more than $1 billion in sales during its first few opening days. Soon the game will take things a step further and introduce the online component, capable of putting 16 players on the Los Santos map at once. Now leaked images show that the sales of the initial game might not be the only way Rockstar plans to make money off of it.
Images showing "cash cards" ranging from $100,000 to $125,000 have been discovered on game discs and posted to Reddit.
According to the Telegraph, the XML file tells gamers that "cash is king in this town" and then appears to give instructions on how to convert real money into the virtual in-game currency in order to spend it in the game.
"Solve your money problems and help get what you want across Los Santos and Blaine County with the purchase of cash packs for Grand Theft Auto Online," it reads. "All purchased cash is automatically deposited into your character's bank account. Spend wisely, cash therapy is fleeting."
Rockstar games has yet to comment on the matter. If these rumors turn out to be true, then the move will likely spark controversy amongst the gaming community, which is traditionally against microtransactions in major games because they benefit those who are willing to sink the most real dollars into the game.
In fact, many users on the Reddit forum that posted the file have already begun to complain that this will give the richer online players advantages over others. So far the cash cards only seem like they'll be available for the online mode of "Grand Theft Auto V," which will become available on Oct. 1 for anyone who has already purchased a copy of the game.
