Celebrities are getting excited as Pope Francis makes his first stops in the U.S. His arrival is a historical moment, as this is his first visit to the U.S. He has many scheduled events as he travels from Washington, D.C., to New York City to Philadelphia, and they're all supposed to bring in crazy amounts of people.
On Tuesday, he landed in Washington as President Obama welcomed him to the White House alongside the entire Obama family. He will be spending all of Wednesday and some of Thursday in Washington before he departs for New York City Thursday afternoon, according to The Wall Street Journal. Once in New York, he will hold an evening prayer at the historic St. Patrick's Cathedral. On Friday, he will visit the 9/11 Memorial and later that night, he will hold one of his most talked-about events of his trip, a mass at Madison Square Garden. Big-name celebrities like Harry Connick Jr., Gloria Estefan and Jennifer Hudson will perform during this event and many are expected to attend.
With this being one of the largest security lockdowns in history, Francis took to Twitter to ask for prayers during his journey. "I ask you to join me in praying for my trip to Cuba and the United States," he wrote. "I need your prayers."
As the pope continues on his way, many celebrities are also taking to social media to welcome him into the country. Here's what celebs have to say of his arrival so far!
