Samsung's Galaxy Gear smartwatch has been on the market for several weeks now and customers sand creators alike are already saying that it could use a few improvements.
In a recent interview with the Korea Times, published on Wednesday, an unidentified Samsung official said that the company has "acknowledged that our [Galaxy] Gear [smartwatch] lacks something special." The anonymous executive went on to say that the company has plans to increase "investment for user interface and user experience," according to CNET.
The Galaxy Gear smartwatch was announced by Samsung earlier in September at the IFA show in Berline. The device has hit some countries around the world already and will be available in the U.S. next month. Rumors put the device at $299 coming out around Oct. 27. The device features a touch screen that displays the time. Its real claim to fame is its ability to sync with your Galaxy smartphone to give you notifications and messages. It works with several apps and can also take calls. The idea behind the smartwatch was simply to reduce the amount of times people need to bother to pull their phone out of their pocket throughout the day.
The company didn't specify exactly what it wants to improve on the Galaxy Gear smartwatch in the future but the official speaking to the Korea Times acknowledged that the company will hire more people soon that have experience in user interface design to help perfect the smartwatch concept for the company.
It is likely that the smartwatch will be the next theater for the battle between Samsung and Apple, which has long been rumored to be working on a smartwatch design of its own, likely named the iWatch. Apple has made several hires and patents that point to a smartwatch device coming to the users sometime in the near future.
These comments from Samsung have already begun to fuel rumors that the company is hard at work on a new prototype smartwatch coming to users in the near future as well that will improve and update many of the features of the current Galaxy Gear.
