An arrest was made in the extortion case involving Miss Teen USA Cassidy Wolf and other young woman, where a hijacker hacked into webcams and taken nude photos of the his victims.
FBI officials arrested Jared James Abrahams, a 19-year-old computer science student from Temecula, Calif., on Thursday on federal extortion charges, KPAX.com reports.
Wolf has mixed reactions to Abrahams arrest; she knew the 19-year-old from high school.
"It's weird for me to be able to put a face to the person who did this to me and to know that it was somebody I went to high school with,'' Wolf told the TODAY show.
Wolf received the following extortion letter allegedly from Abrahams.
"Either you do one of the things listed below or I upload these pics and a lot more (I have a LOT more and those are better quality) on all your accounts for everybody to see and your dream of being a model will be transformed into a pornstar (sic)," he wrote.
The extortion letter came after Wolf's Miss Teen USA win, and began "screaming" and "crying."
"I wasn't sure what to do," Wolf said. "So it was terrifying."
Authorities said a few of the extortion victims complied with Abrahams alleged demands. He promised the girls he would not release the videos of a Skype session he demanded, and made it seem like her was deleting their nude photos, KPAX.com reports.
However, police reportedly found one of the black mail sessions on his phone.
"When he admitted what he'd done in June, Abrahams said he had 30 to 40 "slave computers" -- or other people's electronic devices he controlled -- and has had as many as 150 total, according to a criminal complaint," KPAX.com reports.
Abrahams is out on $50,000 bail under the condition he remain on house arrest, and prohibited from using the Internet. His attorney claimed in federal court on Thursday that his client has "mental issues," TODAY reports.
"There wasn't just one victim,'' FBI agent Bill Lewis told TODAY. "There were multiple victims in the state of California, throughout the United States, and even internationally. Some were as young as 16 years old."
