A male koala joey has emerged from his mother's pouch at the Koala Encounter in Taronga Zoo in Australia, much to the delight of the zoo keepers and visitors alike.
The male joey, which has been named TJ by the keepers, is now seven-months old and came out of mom Sydney's pouch just in time before the start of Australian spring.
Besides Sydney, another female koala named Mallee also welcomed her first joey. The male joey was named Baxter after Eucalyptus Baxteri, which is a stringybark species, according to Zoo Borns.
Before the birth of both TJ and Baxter, another mother koala named Wanda had also bore a female joey back in June.
The female joey was born in Wanda's pouch and stayed for six months after a 35-day gestation period and until now has yet to be given a name, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
This would mark the third baby koala that Wanda has given birth to as part of the koala breeding program of the zoo.
"Wanda is a very relaxed and attentive mum. She keeps her little one nice and close at all times and I've never seen her complain when the joey is scratching around with its claws inside her pouch," koala keeper Laura Jones said, according to Australian Geographic.
