It seems rookie Karlos Williams could potentially be leading the Buffalo Bills running back depth chart for more than just the coming week. Starter LeSean McCoy is currently suffering from a hamstring injury he initially sustained during training camp. Bills head coach Rex Ryan has announced that it will keep Shady out of the this weekend's matchup against the New York Giants, which is troublesome for a Bills team looking to keep their strong start to the season rolling. Unfortunately, it seems that McCoy's injury could potentially sideline him for quite a bit longer, as Jason Cole of Bleacher Report indicated on Thursday that Ryan and the Bills are concerned that McCoy's injury could "linger."
While it's not surprising to hear that a team is concerned a hamstring injury could linger - they tend to be the kind of nagging injury that, if not given proper time to heal, sidelines players again and again throughout a season - it's certainly not good news for Bills fans and McCoy fantasy owners to know that the Buffalo coaching staff thinks McCoy may not be his normal nimble self for a while longer.
McCoy, acquired this offseason via the Kiko Alonso trade, has appeared in all three Bills games thus far this season, but has only managed one day of positive output. In both the Bills' wins, McCoy was relatively silent, averaging just 2.4 and 1.5 yards-per-carry in Weeks One and Three, respectively. He's only scored one touchdown no the season, a reception this past weekend against Miami, and he's proven far less effective than the upstart Williams.
While the backfield will continue to see a rotation, with or without a healthy McCoy, it seems his status going forward is very much in question, meaning his weekly fantasy production is likely to fall somewhere on the scale between limited and nonexistent for the foreseeable future.
