U.S. Transport Plane Crash: Taliban Claims Responsibility

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the U.S. transport plane crash that killed 14 on Thursday, according to Agence France-Presse, via MSN.

NATO officials have not yet determined the cause of the crash of the C-130.

"Our mujahideen have shot down a four-engine US aircraft in Jalalabad," Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on Twitter. "Based on credible information 15 invading forces and a number of puppet troops were killed."

The Taliban is prone to claiming responsibility for any military aircraft incident, regardless of the group's involvement.

"With a high degree of confidence I can say that an enemy attack did not contribute to the crash. It is under investigation," said U.S. Major Tony Wickman, according to News Max,

The transport plane crashed near Jalalabad in Afghanistan. Jalalabad is near the eastern border of Pakistan, an area subject to Taliban attacks.

The military transport plane crashed shortly after takeoff, killing six U.S. military service members, five civilian contractors from Resolute Support, the NATO-led training mission, and three Afghan nationals.

"This is a reminder of the risks that our men and women face serving their country in remote places all over the world," U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said, according to DNA India.
