Oregon Shooting Victims Identified, Heartbreaking Stories Emerge

More details about the victims of the Oregon shooting emerged Saturday. Among the new details are their ages, which range from 18 to 67, according to CNN.

There are nine shooting victims dead following the grisly mass shooting on the Umpqua Community College campus. This includes Lucero Alcaraz, 19. Rebecka Ann Carnes, Lucas Eibel and Quinn Glen Cooper, who were 18 years old. Treven Taylor Anspach, 20, and Jason Dale Johnson, 34, both lost their lives. Kim Saltmarsh Dietz was 59, and Sarena Dawn Moore was 44. Lawrence Levine, a teacher, was the oldest at age 67.

The shooter, identified as Chris Harper-Mercer, was enrolled at the college, says Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin. Harper-Mercer, 26, took English and theater classes at the college. He began firing in an English class and became the tenth victim of the shooting after engaging in a gunfight with police officers.

Dietz was taking classes at the same college as her daughter, who was not injured in the shooting, the Associated Press reported. Alcaraz won several scholarships to fund her college dreams, and she was pursuing a career in pediatric nursing. Johnson had only just begin his first week of college when he was fatally shot. He fought drug abuse and started to pursue his education after successfully completing a six-month rehab program.

Witnesses reported that Levine was teaching a writing class in Snyder Hall at the college when he was shot at close range, according to Yahoo! News. He was a fly-fishing enthusiast and liked to write in his free time.

Oregon and the nation continue to grieve all of the terrible losses at Umpqua. We'll continue to provide updates on the story as it progresses.
