In a bizarre incident, four students of the Summerville High School in California were arrested for planning a shooting and a deadly rampage that could have left many dead on campus.
According to the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department, the alleged plot came to light when administrators at the school discovered that three students were threatening staff and other members of the student community. The school authorities informed the sheriff's department, reports Daily News It was during the investigations that the authorities discovered that a fourth student was also involved.
The arrested students had planned to "come on campus, and shoot and kill as many people as possible at the campus. Detectives located evidence verifying a plot to shoot staff and students at Summerville High School. The suspects' plan was very detailed in nature and included names of would-be victims, locations and the methods in which the plan was to be carried out," said Sheriff Jim Meele, according to People.
The authorities said that "within a very short period of time [the school district] knew they didn't have an immediate threat to safety," which is why the school did not need to be put into a lockdown, said Summerville Union High School District Superintendent Robert Griffith.
The four students and their parents are cooperating with the investigations. After their arrest the suspects were handed over to the Tuolumne County Probation Department.
"I can't imagine getting a phone call that something like that had happened at that school," said Kristin Kristin Wilson whose daughter attends Summerville High, reacting to the incident, reports USA Today.
