San Francisco's last remaining gun store, High Bridge Arms, is closing their doors on Oct. 31, according to the New York Daily News, saying the storre just cannot continue under the city's growing gun control regulations and the increased outspoken opposition to the gun store.
"It's with tremendous sadness and regret that I have to announce we are closing our shop," High Bridge Arms manager Steve Alcairo announced in a Facebook post on Sept. 11. "It has been a long and difficult ride, but a great pleasure to be your last San Francisco gun shop."
The final straw came when local politician Mark Farrell proposed a law that, if passed, would require the city's only gun store, High Bridge Arms, to video record all gun sales and then submit a report of all ammunition sales to the San Francisco Police Department within a week of all sales.
"I'm not doing that to our customers. Enough is enough," Alcairo said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "Buying a gun is a constitutionally protected right. Our customers shouldn't be treated like they're doing something wrong."
"This is the city that defended gay marriage and fights for unpopular causes like medical marijuana," Alcairo said. "Where's my support?"
"Prioritizing the public safety of our city's residents always comes first, and trumps all else," said Farrell, according to Guns. "My gun control reforms are intended to close known loopholes that exist in state and federal law. And, the facts don't lie - jurisdictions with the strictest gun control laws on the books have less gun crime compared to those who don't."
