Once Upon a Time Season 3 Premiere Recap: Pan is Revealed; Why Does He Want Henry?

Well done Robbie Kay, well done.

Our heroes are on their way to Neverland and to say that things are going smoothly—would be a complete and utter lie.

--Mermaids and Mayhem

Things seem to be going OK on the Jolly Roger as the season premiere begins and they have Neverland in their sights. Emma and Hook even share a nice moment as he gives her a sword that belonged to Baelfire/Neal when he was on the Jolly Roger many years ago. They share a drink and Hook admits that even he misses Baelfire. (Yeah, ok.) Before they even reach Neverland, Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold decides to go rouge. He changes back into more dark one-esque clothing and decides to magically teleport to Neverland leaving everyone behind. Then things get worse. Before any one knows what’s going on mermaids begin to hit the side of the ship. And they don’t seem to have the kind and gentle demeanor of Ariel. It also begins to thunderstorm like crazy. The crew is able to catch one and send away the rest with Regina’s fireballs. Then the arguments begin. Regina thinks they should torture her for information. Charming and Snow think otherwise, since they believe torturing her will make the storm they’re in worse. Regina finally decides to do what she thinks is a compromise by turning the mermaid into stone. This seems to make the storm worse, which produces arguments. Snow and Regina begin to fight. Charming and Hook begin to fight. Everyone’s brawling. It doesn’t take Emma long to realize that the storm isn’t because of the mermaid but because they keep fighting. After failing to get everyone’s attention, she jumps into the water. The four brawlers quit their boxing matches and work to save her. The storm ceases and they arrive in Neverland. When they arrive on the Island, Emma says that she is the leader and they will have to work together to fight Pan. (Charming flashes a proud, fatherly smile here which was adorable.) If they don’t want to, they can simply get out of her way.

--They Had No Idea What They Were Getting Into

Greg and Tamara arrive at Neverland with Henry and wait to hear from “the home office.” They still have no idea who they’re working for and it shows because pretty soon the Lost Boys arrive and Felix explains that they are “the home office.” A confused Greg, still oblivious, asks why he and Tamara were supposed to stop magic and how he and Tamara are getting home. Felix has two answers for them—They weren’t and they’re not. Our two overmatched villains from earth say they are not giving up Henry without some answers. This ends with Greg’s shadow being ripped out by Peter Pan’s shadow, Tamara with an arrow in her back and Henry on the run.

--Baelfire Awakes

Baelfire has awoken in the enchanted forest and is greated by Princess Aurora, Prince Phillip and Mulan. After they exchange pleasantries, Aurora offers to travel to the dream world to try and find Emma or Henry but comes up with nothing. So Baelfire is left with no choice—he has to go to his father’s castle. He and Mulan arrive at Rumple’s castle and as they are looking around for something Rumple may have left behind, a man in a green hood points his bow and arrow at them and asks for answers. The man, of course, is Robin Hood. After Bael explains his identity they begin to look for something that might have been left behind by Rumple. Bael finds a staff that can only be activated by blood magic (magic specific to a family). He twirls it around and it reveals a door that leads to a closet. The closet leads to a crystal ball. The crystal leads to Emma’s location and its worse than Bael has feared—she’s in Neverland.

--Rumple Cries

Rumplestiltskin arrives in Neverland to find Tamara crawling with an arrow in her back. He takes it out with magic in exchange for the story of what happened to Henry. After Tamara tells him Henry has escaped, she asks Rumple for his forgiveness. In return, he grabs her heart out of her stomach and crushes it into a million pieces. He later finds Felix who threatens him. If he continues to look for Henry he will be punished. Although Rumple releases some threats of his own, Felix leaves him with a doll that belonged to Baelfire and Rumple begins to cry.

--The Big Pan Reveal

As Henry is running a small boy grabs him behind a tree. The boy says that he too is running from the lost boys because he stole some pixie dust. They both decide to go to the echo caves. However, as they are running they come to a cliff. Henry suggests they use the pixie dust to fly. The boy claims he can’t because he doesn’t believe. But it doesn’t matter because Henry does. They two begin to fly and eventually land in a clearing in the woods. Henry says, “See if you believe, anything is possible.”

Boy: You couldn’t be more right Henry

Henry: How’d you know my name I never told you.

Boy: Let’s make it a game, a puzzle to solve.

Henry: You lied to me, you are a lost boy, you work for Pan.

Boy: Not exactly. I am Peter Pan.
