A Texas inmate who is set to be executed admitted to shooting a man and robbing him of $8, but he claims that he does not deserve to die for the crime he committed in Houston 17 years ago.
Juan Martin Garcia, 35, argues that his case is not capital and that he was coerced for not defending himself during his trial back in 2001, according to the Associated Press.
At the time of the murder, Garcia, then 18 years old, worked as a landscaper. In Sept. 1998, he shot Hugo Solano, 32, in the head and took his $8 after Garcia approached the victim outside an apartment complex, according to Breitbart News.
Garcia is set to be executed via lethal injection on Tuesday in Huntsville and that no late appeals have been filed on his behalf. The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles last week rejected a request for clemency in a 5-2 vote.
Back in March, the U.S. Supreme Court had also refused to review Garcia's case. His execution via lethal injection would be the 11th execution the state of Texas has carried out for this year alone.
Texas conducts the highest number of executions of any state in the country, according to The Miami Herald.
