Richard Glossip, a 52-year-old former hotel worker from Oklahoma and death row inmate, has gotten his scheduled execution postponed. Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin decided to stop his execution which surprised many people, according to CNN. Her decision came after Glossip's petition for appeal was rejected by the Oklahoma Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court, according to The Atlantic. Without Fallin, the execution would have gone on as planned.
Glossip has insisted that he is innocent for the duration of these allegations. "I do want to live, do not get me wrong, but if the worse should happen though, I am ready to die to prevent this from happening to another innocent person," Glossip said in an interview, according to The Mirror. He has been on death row for 16 years and charged with orchestrating the murder of his boss Barry Van Treese.
A former hotel worker who admitted to beating Treese to death with a baseball bat, Justin Sneed, has stated that Glossip did not physically participate in killing Van Treese. Sneed said that Glossip offered him job opportunities and money to commit the murder, according to Democracy Now. Sneed is currently facing life without parole at Joseph Harp Correctional Center in Lexington,Okla. Glossip proclaims his innocence and hopes to be fully exonerated on all charges.
