‘Game of Thrones’: George R.R. Martin’s Death Scene in ‘Sharknado 3’

George R. R. Martin, author of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels that HBO's "Game of Thrones" is based on, is not without a sense of humor. Despite what you may think due to the Red Wedding and the other gut-wrenching tragedies he has bestowed on us, Martin actually loves to laugh.

Nowhere is this more evident than the author's appearance in "Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!" in which he was, you guessed it, killed by a shark. Yahoo TV reported back when the film premiered in July that Martin agreed to be part of the third installment of the franchise in exchange for a print of the film he could screen at his New Mexico-based theater, the Jean Cocteau Cinema.

The screening also included an extended version of his top secret role that pays homage to the Red Wedding. You can check it out by clicking here.

Martin's cameo was originally significantly longer than the actual TV version. Director Anthony C. Ferrante explains that franchise protagonist Fin Shpeard (Ian Ziering) was originally supposed to drive past the Jean Cocteau where we would see Martin going inside to tell the brides that "Out there it sure looks like Winter's coming."

"We realized it kind of stopped the movie," Ferrante said. "Our movie moves fast and it was kind of a slow moment."

Fortunately, the director figured out a way to salvage the appearance and get martin into the final product.

"Sharnado 3: Oh Hell No!" is now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD.
