An NFL owner said that the league "made a mountain out of a mole hill" regarding Tom Brady and the Deflategate case, according to Ben Volin of The Boston Globe.
While NFL commissioner Roger Goodell spoke about disciplinary policies and the improvement the league has made, the biggest statement likely made Wednesday was by an AFC owner about Deflategate.
"Protecting the integrity of the game is not something we're going to compromise," said Goodell. This seems to be Goodell's answer as to why he continues to pursue Brady and the Deflategate issue.
Brady's four-game suspension was overturned by Judge Richard Berman in September shortly after the NFL filed a civil appeal pre-argument statement about how they would fight Berman's decision.
The NFL had implemented new ball-testing procedures in response to Deflategate, but the league has made no announcement about releasing that data. "No such decision has been made, said an NFL spokesman, via The Boston Globe. "And we are not discussing the details of the program."
The NFL likely wants this issue to be solved, but unless the league becomes transparent with its fans, questions about ball pressure will continue to be asked. Goodell and the league may have tried to focus on the positives like less arrests and violations over the past eight years, but as long as Deflategate remains unsolved, it will likely continue to be a major topic of conversation.
The NFL likely wants Deflategate in the rearview mirror, but as long as Goodell and the league pursue Brady in court, it will continue to dominate headlines.
