The first-ever Latin American Music Awards ceremony is set to kick off tonight, and the star-studded event will be telecast live on Telemundo and NBC Universo from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The festivities start with a pre-show special that includes a one-hour red carpet event at 8 p.m. ET, and the Latin AMAs ceremony will follow at 9 p.m. ET, Billboard reported.
The Latin AMAs will mark the first time that a Dick Clark Productions show will be recast in Spanish, according to Music Times. The telecast will be hosted by Mexican superstar Lucero, who is known as "Latin America's Sweetheart." This isn't Lucero's first time in a hosting slot, as she's hosted eight Latin Grammy Awards ceremonies and even appeared on the first season of the Mexican version of NBC's "The Voice," "La Voz Mexico."
"The 'Latin American Music Awards' celebration will honor today's most influential and iconic Latin artists, as voted by the fans in the traditional format of the 'American Music Awards,' the world's biggest fan-voted award show," read a statement on the Telemundo website.
The show will feature confirmed performances by the hottest stars, like Paulina Rubio, Daddy Yankee, Jesse & Joy, Reik, Farruko, Fonseca, Shaggy, Lil Jon, Yandel, Natalie La Rose, Jencarlos Canela, Luis Coronel, CD9, Gloria Trevi, Gerardo Ortiz, Il Volo and DJ Alex Sensation, according to Billboard.
Latin singer Nicky Jam holds the spot for most nominees with six nominations, according to Broadway World. Global pop star Enrique Iglesias ties with newcomer J Balvin for five nominations, and Calibre 50, Maná and Romeo Santos all earned four nominations, respectively.
