Latin American Music Awards: J Balvin Up For New Artist Of The Year, Here's 5 Things You Need To Know (VIDEO)

J Balvin has been heating things up in the Latin music scene, and his rapid-fire success even earned him nominations at the first-ever Latin American Music Awards, as previously reported by HNGN. Here are five things you need to know about the nominee for Best New Artist of the Year, J Balvin.

1.) Balvin just earned his second Number 1 Hit with "Ginza."

The Columbian music sensation is dominating the Hot Latin Songs chart right now with his hit "Ginza," which just reached Number One during the week of Oct.17, Billboard reported. He beat out other Latin music mega stars Enrique Iglesias and Nicky Jam. Balvin's first number one hit was this year's "Ay Vamos."

2.) He gave his first tattoo to artist Sebastian Barreto.

Balvin is heavily tattooed, with full sleeves and pieces on his neck and hands. As much as Balvin likes spending time under the needle, he recently switched places with his artist Sebastián Barreto, Latin Times reported. Balvin uploaded a short video to his Instagram capturing the moment that he inked Barreto, the first time Balvin has ever given anyone a tattoo.

"So @iversontattoo knows what it feels like, making my first tattoo!!!! Hush it up!" Balvin wrote in the video's caption. See the post below.

3.) Balvin led the fallout from Miss USA.

Balvin was the first person to cut ties with Miss USA after he pulled his performance from the pageant following 2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump’s offensive comments about Mexicans, Entertainment Weekly reported. Shortly after Balvin announced that he would no longer be performing, hosts Roselyn Sánchez and Cristián de la Fuente pulled out of their gigs. Networks NBC, Univision and Televisa also cut ties with Trump following Balvin’s exit.

4.) Balvin attempted to teach Justin Bieber Columbian slang words.

Balvin and Bieber both performed at the Special Olympics World Opening Games Ceremony in Los Angeles this past July, Latin Post reported. The two stars hung out together backstage, and Balvin tried to teach the Canadian pop star how to pronounce “parcero,” which translates to “homie” according to Urban Dictionary. 5.) Balvin's most prized possession is his dog, Enzo.

Balvin values his dog Enzo above any other of his material possessions, he told Billboard. Balvin shared a sweet shot of him and his pup on Instagram and wrote a sweet message in Spanish.

"My friend and son Enzo !! Dogs never look to hurt you and are never vindictive, which is why their love is true," the caption translates. See the photo below.
