Ariana Grande recorded the studio version of her bubbly pop song "Pink Champagne" when she was just 17, and until now, fans of the "Sam & Cat" Nickelodeon actress have only heard the live version. To celebrate her 10 million Twitter followers, the singer released the studio version on YouTube, and you can listen here!
Although it didn't make the cut for her debut album, "Yours Truly," a record that blends R&B-pop with Mariah Carey-infused vocals and '90s influences, "Pink Champagne" has been a fan favorite ever since Grande began performing it live for her small shows in 2012 and earlier this year. Other tracks that didn't make the album's cut include "Boyfriend Material," "Higher," and reported duets with Justin Bieber and Demi Lovato.
Grande's first official single, feel-good bubblegum anthem "Put Your Hearts Up," also did not make the album, as it was intended for a younger audience, including fans of the now-canceled Nickelodeon show "Victorious." During the making of "Yours Truly," Grande insisted to her label that it wasn't the type of music she wanted to make anymore. Instead, the singer wanted to create a "throwback" record to urban '90s pop.
The Nickelodeon queen got her wish and later released the high-charting single "The Way" with Mac Miller, which peaked at No. 10 in the Billboard Hot 100 and became both artists' first No. 10 hit. The album's second single, "Baby, I," peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard charts, and the third single, "Right There" featuring Big Sean, peaked at No. 84. "Yours Truly" is the result of three years of work and many conceptual changes, according to Ariana Grande's fan Wikia, and several of the songs were reworked for the final cut, including "Honeymoon Avenue" and "Tattooed Heart."
Although Grande did not announce whether or not she would release "Pink Champagne" on a future album, she acknowledged that many fans were disappointed that it did not make her debut in her latest YouTube video, though maintained she would not change a thing about the album's final version.
