Indiana Boy Becomes 5th Person To Wear Family Heirloom Sweater

A 7-year-old Indiana boy has now become the fifth person in his family to wear a decades-old sweater first worn by his great-uncle for his first grade school photo back in 1954, Woman's Day reported.

Brady Gose, of Brownsburg, wore the heirloom sweater in his first grade school photo, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Charles, who wore it for his own first grade school photo in 1958. It was then passed on to Charles' younger brother.

Brady's father, Chuck Gose, then wore the 61-year-old gray sweater in 1982, which made headlines all over their community.

"As far as I know, my grandma just purchased it in 1954 and then had my dad and his two brothers all wear it for their first grade picture day as a novelty," Chuck said, according to ABC News.

The sweater was then hidden in the storage for 33 long years before Chuck took it out and passed it on to his son, who was happy at being given the opportunity to wear the sentimental sweater for his school photo.

"If we had a family heirloom, this simple store-bought sweater is it," Chuck said, according to The Huffington Post. "I know that he would be proud to see the grandson he never met carrying on the tradition."

Chuck noted that everyone in the Brownsburg community is fully aware of the family's long-standing tradition.

"I think it's the simplicity of the story is why people have enjoyed it," he said. "It's not fancy. It's not glamorous. It centers around a symbolic time like school pictures."
